Europe – Schengen: one visa, 27 countries, the best value in the Western world.
Study in one Schengen country and your residence opens the whole zone — 27 of our 68 destinations sit here. This hub holds the near-zero-tuition public systems (Germany, Italy, Austria, France), Europe’s widest English-taught choice, and post-study job-search permits of 9–24 months in most member states. For a Pakistani student who wants a respected degree without a premium price tag, this is usually where the shortlist starts.

Every card is a full deep-dive page: real costs, scholarships, work rights, stay-back routes and the honest downsides. Totals shown are tuition + living guides for a typical first year, before scholarships.
Side by side: how this hub’s routes compare
Best for near-zero tuition
Germany’s public universities charge €0 tuition in most states; Italy’s fees shrink with family income and DSU scholarships can cover living; Austria charges non-EU students just €1,453/yr; France’s public rate is €2,770/yr. The catch is never the fee — it’s proof of funds and preparation. We build both.
Best for English-taught choice
The Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Estonia run thousands of full English-taught programmes — no local language needed to start, though learning it transforms your job hunt. Malta removes the language question entirely: English is co-official.
Best for medicine on a budget
Poland, Hungary, Romania, Czechia and Greece run established English-taught MD/MBBS routes at a fraction of UK/US prices — with the recognition and licensing checks for Pakistan done in writing before you pay a rupee.
Questions students ask about this hub
Does one visa really cover all 27 countries?
Your student residence is issued by one Schengen state, and it lets you travel freely across the other 26 for short stays — weekend trips, conferences, interviews. You study and reside in your issuing country; you explore the whole zone. After graduation, each country’s own job-search permit applies — we plan yours around the strongest one for your field.
Do I need to learn the local language?
To start, often no — English-taught programmes are everywhere in this hub. To thrive, yes: part-time jobs, internships and PR routes all reward the local language, and in Germany, France, Italy and Spain it’s close to essential for graduate employment. We’ll tell you, per country, exactly how much it matters and build a realistic language runway.
Which Schengen country is cheapest overall?
On total cost (tuition + living): Italy and Germany lead for students who use the public systems properly, with Poland, Romania and the Baltics close behind once living costs are counted. The cheapest headline fee isn’t always the cheapest degree — your free session compares full-degree totals, not first-year teasers.
Can I work while studying, and stay after?
Most Schengen states allow part-time work during studies (typically 20 hrs/week or an annual hour cap) and offer a post-study job-search permit — 18 months in Germany, 12–24 months in France and several others. Rules differ by country and change; we confirm the current position for your exact route before you commit.
